Introduction

Uiverse is an open-source platform where developers and designers share free UI elements—buttons, loaders, checkboxes, toggles, cards, and more. Each element is self-contained CSS or Tailwind CSS that you copy directly into your project without installing a framework.

What Uiverse Does

  • Hosts thousands of community-contributed UI elements with live previews
  • Provides one-click copy for HTML and CSS or Tailwind markup
  • Supports React component exports via the @uiverse/react package
  • Lets contributors submit, edit, and showcase their own creations
  • Categorises elements by type: buttons, inputs, loaders, switches, cards, and forms

Architecture Overview

Uiverse is a Next.js application backed by a database of user-submitted elements. Each element stores its HTML, CSS, and optional Tailwind variant. The frontend renders live previews in isolated iframes, and a REST API handles submissions, votes, and search. The Galaxy repo on GitHub contains the open-source element collection.

Self-Hosting & Configuration

  • Clone the Galaxy repo and serve elements with any static host
  • Use the React package for component-based integration: npm install @uiverse/react
  • Elements are pure CSS with no runtime dependencies
  • Tailwind variants require your project to have Tailwind CSS configured
  • Contributions follow a standard template with HTML and CSS slots

Key Features

  • Zero-dependency UI snippets that work in any web project
  • Community curation with voting and popularity sorting
  • Tailwind CSS variants alongside vanilla CSS for each element
  • React component wrappers for seamless integration
  • Open contribution model—anyone can submit and improve elements

Comparison with Similar Tools

  • shadcn/ui — full component system requiring Radix and Tailwind; Uiverse is snippet-level, no framework lock-in
  • Flowbite — Tailwind component library with JS interactions; Uiverse focuses on pure CSS micro-elements
  • DaisyUI — Tailwind plugin adding component classes; Uiverse elements are standalone copy-paste
  • CodePen — general front-end playground; Uiverse is specifically curated for reusable UI elements

FAQ

Q: Do I need a build tool to use Uiverse elements? A: No. Elements are plain HTML and CSS—paste them into any project.

Q: Can I use Uiverse elements in commercial projects? A: Yes. Elements are released under the MIT license.

Q: How do I contribute an element? A: Fork the Galaxy repo, add your HTML/CSS following the template, and open a pull request.

Q: Does Uiverse support frameworks other than React? A: The CSS snippets work everywhere. The React package provides convenience wrappers, but Vue or Svelte users copy the HTML/CSS directly.
